Animals are teachers for us. They teach us about living in harmony with nature. They show us how to honor our intuition.  They understand that life is a blessing and they live in the present moment, accepting the blessings of everyday Grace. The animals who are our pets teach us about unconditional love. They teach us about patience and forgiveness. They give us their love, their loyalty, and their companionship.

They rely upon us to take gentle care of them. If animals could talk, they might say to us, “I am another of God’s creations; filled with the same Divine Presence that fills you. But I have no voice. Speak for me.  I have no power. Protect me.”

In this lesson, Rev. Nancy J. Oristaglio invites us to practice Ahimsa, non-harming to all forms of life and gives suggestions for living Ahimsa in our daily lives.

Here is an Animal Blessing that you may use to bless your beloved pet:

Blessed are you, Lord God, Who are Divine Universal Consciousness and creator of all living creatures.  You created fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land.

You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters.

Through the power of your Love, we bless this creation of your Love – this embodiment of Your Consciousness. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation.

Blessed you are, O God –

We show our love for you through our love to your creation!  Blessed are you in all your creatures.

Amen.
