Answered Prayers from Unity of AV Members

I was praying for my daughter Kelly about two years ago to turn things around and to help her find herself. I never gave it much thought afterward, but after a few months things improved dramatically. We now have a wonderful grandson Logan, and Kelly is a great Mom and busy taking night classes. I know that the prayers helped because there was no other possible answer for the turnaround.

In February 2007 my wife Linda had a blood clot that caused nearly half of her small intestine to die. She required two surgeries—one to remove the dead intestine and the second to reattach the two ends of the small intestine. After the first operation, the surgeon explained that there was only one inch of usable intestine left on one end and that if more of it died there was nothing left he could do. That night I offered my first heart-felt prayer in nearly 25 years. I prayed, “Thank you God for the 25 years Linda and I have had together; thank you God for the five years of sobriety to share with my family; thank you God for the three wonderful children Linda brought into this world; and thank you God for showing me your love in these tangible ways. You have all met Linda, so you know how the second operation turned out. Since then Linda and I have experienced our daughter getting married; our first grandchild being born and finding this Unity community. With that prayer I learned that prayers of gratitude are always answered with more blessings for which to be grateful.

Just as Paul encouraged the church in Thessalonica to “rejoice always and pray without ceasing,” prayer is a constant conversation and state of being for me. I see answered prayer every day as my needs and the needs of my loved ones are met. All challenges are faced with courage and the knowledge that all is well even if the appearance is cloudy. I am so grateful and excited for the answered prayers of yesterday and the ones I know we will all experience today.

For the past five years I had been discontented with my job which made me go inward often to pray for “work that I love doing and in a supportive environment.” But, when I actively searched, nothing would come up. My inner guidance was telling me to stop the search and to trust. In the process of me becoming more aware of Truth, I moved through a period to heal some unresolved pain that was necessary before I left this place of employment. Once I released that pain I found the Universe supporting me to quit my job, something I didn’t expect. Since I quit, I have found much freedom doing work I love in a supportive environment, better than I imagined. I give thanks that I trusted and allowed the steps to unfold as they did. I got out of the way and let God.

I prayed for divine guidance to help me deal with a personal situation last year. Rev. Nancy guided me in prayers, too. My prayers were answered when I received advice and help from many loved ones and even from some people that I didn't expect.

I have had so many answered prayers, but my very, very favorite is Brooke. After having our beautiful son Bryce, we tried unsuccessfully to have another child. With God’s guidance, we chose adoption. It took only six months to be matched with Brooke’s birth family. We brought our healthy, bright-eyed girl home from the hospital and have been blessed each day with our amazing children.

I was visiting my dad and step-mom Rose in Nashville when Rose had a heart attack following a “routine” carotid artery surgery on July 28. Her heart doctor learned that the two main arteries to her heart were 80% blocked, and she was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  They scheduled her for triple bypass surgery on August 1. My father and I were very scared and nervous about this, and we prayed that Rose would pull through the surgery and be healthy again. I called on my friends at Unity of AV and Unity of Nashville to pray for a successful operation and healing for Rose. I am happy to report that Rose is doing extremely well six weeks after the surgery and is back to her old self again.

A Guardian Angel was looking out for me when my prayer was answered in 1998. My sister Lucille had made her transition, and I knew my son Steve would want to attend his favorite aunt’s funeral; however, Steve was a long-distance truck driver and without cell phones, it was impossible to reach him.  I left messages with Steve’s employer, wife and friends and PRAYED.  After driving hundreds of miles on the way to the funeral, my husband Tommy and I reached Reno during heavy rush hour traffic. We realized we were going in the wrong direction, causing an hour delay to backtrack.  We spotted a large motel and truck stop where we decided to spend the night—but we missed the motel entrance.  Just as we drove in through the truck stop exit, who did we see driving out—but our son Steve!  We flagged him down and he was able to go to the funeral in Twin Falls!

We deeply believe in the power of prayer. In the mornings, we read the inspirational prayers in the Daily Word, and we sometimes compose our own prayers. We have gone online to request prayers from “Silent Unity,” and we have requested prayers from Rev. Nancy for circulation to church members. In our own experience, we know that prayers are answered. We want to thank all of you for your prayers for our son Steve’s recent surgery. It was even more successful than anyone—including his doctors—expected!
